An elegant Palazzo in the heart of Parma full of memories of art and artists.
This house was built in the 17th century and for more than four generations has belonged to the Campari family. In 1960, after Dr. Enrico Fanti, the hostesses’ father, had married Anna Piera Campari, he had the house renovated by the famous Parma architect Guido Canali.
In the sixties and seventies the house evolved as the centre of the cultural and artistic life of Parma. Dr. Fanti was intimately linked to the Teatro Regio - as a medical doctor for the rehearsals and the performances; but after the curtain had fallen, he became host to all the artists who gathered in der Campari-Fanti house for supper and friendly chats.
There had been illustrious guests from all divisions of art; such as, thedancers Rudolf Nureyev and Carla Fracci, the artistic director Claudio Abbado, the opera singers Josè Carreras, Carlo Bergonzi, Renato Bruson, Katia Ricciarelli, Raina Kabaivanska and Alfredo Kraus; and also the director Bernardo Bertolucci, who used the patio of the palazzo to shoot a scene in the film “Tragedy of a Ridiculous Man”. He also was interviewed by the French TV station “Antenne 2” on the terrace, where you can have your breakfast.
The actress Anouk Aimée and the director of photography Carlo Di Palma had also been part of these cheerful gatherings around this table. Others, like Paolo Grassi, was a very dear friend of the family and founder of the little theatre Teatro di Milano. Later, he became general manager of the Scala Theatre. The famous art historians Federico Zeri and Giuliani Brigant were also at this palazzo; whilst the conductor Lorin Mazel used to live in this palazzo for a little while.
The palazzo’s deep connections with the arts have been conserved into the furniture; which today, serves as a remembrance to these particular guests. Paintings, sculptures and books line every single space of the house. So it is easy to perceive its colourful history. Finally the three spacious double rooms with its period furniture, colours and art comply perfectly to the atmosphere of the Terrazza sul Duomo. Welcome to this house of art and artists.
